At-Home Tests for Yeast Infection: What They Measure and What They Cannot Confirm

Home yeast testing ranges from vaginal pH kits to Candida-directed and mail-in lab tests. Learn what each method measures, its regulatory or lab context, and what a result cannot prove.

The short answer

“At-home yeast test” can mean several very different things. Some kits only measure vaginal pH. Some tests are designed to detect Candida more directly. Others are mail-in vaginal panels processed by a laboratory. Those methods should not be treated as interchangeable, and a familiar brand name does not tell you what the test actually measures. 1 3 4

This inventory was checked on September 14, 2026. It is a bounded set of current examples, not a claim that every product on the U.S. market has been found.

1. Vaginal pH tests are not yeast tests

FDA describes home vaginal pH kits as tests of vaginal acidity. A changed pH can help route vaginal symptoms, but pH alone does not diagnose an infection or distinguish one infection from another. A normal result also does not guarantee that no infection is present; yeast can occur without an elevated pH. 1

A current example is the Vivoo At-Home Vaginal pH Test, listed in FDA’s OTC database as a vaginal-pH test under CR260042 with an effective date of March 9, 2026. Its analyte is vaginal pH. It is not a Candida detection assay. 2

That distinction is the main protection against a common category error: a pH strip may be useful for deciding that BV or trichomoniasis deserves attention, but it cannot “turn positive for yeast.”

2. Direct Candida self-tests exist, but regulatory geography matters

Savyon Diagnostics currently describes SavvyCheck Vaginal Yeast Infection Test as a self-test that detects Candida species from a vaginal swab using a lateral-flow method. The manufacturer’s current catalog identifies the self-test with CE marking. 5

For a U.S.-focused reader, that is not the same thing as FDA OTC clearance. In the FDA OTC database review used for this article, the readily identifiable current vaginal home tests were pH tests; SavvyCheck’s CE status should therefore be stated as CE status, not silently converted into U.S. FDA authorization.

3. Mail-in laboratory panels are a different category

Some consumer services send a vaginal-swab kit to the home and process the returned specimen in a laboratory. Evvy states that its Vaginal Health Test uses shotgun metagenomic sequencing and reports bacteria and fungi from a self-collected vaginal swab; its current materials describe CLIA, CAP and CLEP laboratory validation or certification. 6

myLAB Box V-Box currently describes a mail-in vaginal panel that includes yeast, bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, chlamydia and gonorrhea. The user collects the sample at home and mails it to a laboratory for DNA-based testing. 7

These services are not equivalent to a ten-minute OTC self-test. The specimen route, laboratory, assay, organisms covered and result interpretation all matter.

What a result still cannot prove by itself

MedlinePlus notes that home vaginal yeast tests may indicate that symptoms are likely related to yeast but may not be able to confirm the diagnosis. Symptoms can overlap with STIs and other forms of vaginitis. 3 CDC likewise treats VVC diagnosis as a combination of compatible symptoms/signs and evidence of yeast from an appropriate test; molecular assays must be judged by the performance of the exact test rather than by transferring accuracy from another assay. 4

A positive Candida result can also require clinical context because Candida may be present without being the cause of symptoms. A negative result does not automatically explain itching, burning or discharge.

How to compare a home or mail-in test

Before buying or relying on a result, identify five things: what the test detects, how the sample is collected, where the sample is processed, what regulatory or laboratory status actually applies, and what the result cannot rule in or rule out. Marketing phrases such as “vaginal health test” or “yeast test” are too broad to answer those questions.

There is no single category called “the home yeast test.” pH kits, direct Candida self-tests and mail-in laboratory panels measure different things. The useful comparison is method-by-method and jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction, with the result limits kept visible.
